so... after being super excited yesterday about so much, the bad news came... ugh...
the church that i have attended ever since i was a baby (sang in the choir when i was so little i had to stand in the pew to see the hymnal held by my grandma) was burned down over the weekend... arson... i'm pretty upset and angry about it... the church was super old... nearly 150 years old... but lots of extra work and the recent extensions (recent as in past 20 years) were done by my grandparents... my grandpa built the steeple that was on it... he hung the new windows and replaced the roof... my grandma cooked many loaves of bread for communion in the kitchen... i grew up in that place... and now it's a pile of ash... i just don't understand what would drive someone to burn down a tiny church, down a dirt road, out in the middle of no where... grrr... and what's more, is two other churches (my church's sister church and another one in the same conference) were vandalized on the same night... some people make me so mad i could spit...
and just when i thought the bad news was over... my roommate found out that one of her cats is sick... well she knew delilah has a hyperthyroid condition and is treating that... but cleo had been acting strange lately, so ruth took her to the vet yesterday... after an examination the vet told her that cleo either has cancer or the same condition as delilah... but they won't know for sure till they get the blood tests back, and can't do anything to treat her till they know for sure what it is... blah... hopefully it's the hyperthyroid thing and she'll feel better soon... poor kitties... they're getting old (like 15 yrs old) and it's sad to know that they could be dying... i know, most of the time i'm complaining about the cats being in my bed, or on my furniture... but really, they are the sweetest cats, and i've grown to really like them...
hopefully that's all the bad news for a while... in 12 hours i'll be on a plane to england!!!! hmm... i better get some work done before i leave... later...

being creative
those of you who know me, know that i love crafting... and i'm pretty good at it... but you probably don't know that i'm not really creative... the crafts i do pretty much have a set pattern, or a way that it has to be done, or in some way has some order to it... well, last night, i took an art class at the local community college... it was free, and gave me something to do for the evening... it was called "The Grass is Purple"... so with a name like that, you expect it to be a little out there... and it was... well, for me anyway... you had to create something with bits of paper... it had to be free flowing, and chaotic, and disorderly, but still come together and have meaning... not an easy task for an engineer who's favorite phrase is "A place for everything, and everything in it's place"... putting the pieces of paper together without making them match up, or be in some order, was one of the hardest things for me to do... finally i pretty well just gave up and started glueing the papers just where ever they would stick... i ended up with something the instructor said was terrific, and that she once knew an artist who did work like mine and was able to sell his creations for thousands of dollars... i think it looks like crap, but i guess i don't really have an eye for those things... but it did help me start cultivating creativity... and i'm looking forward to exploring new ways to be creative...
ooooo... on a totally different subject, i got my new walking shoes!!! they are waaay hot!!! i'll post a pic in the next couple of days...
and, regarding my last post, the plan is working!!! i'm not going to give my exact progress, but it's going well... and i'm super excited abou t that!!!

off to england
chris left last night for england... i was pretty sad for the evening... and didn't sleep well through the night... but today was better... he called to let me know he was there safely... i can hardly wait to see him... i've already bought my tickets to go in february... after that it will be a few months before we see each other again... but we'll have our webcams and phone cards, and even internet phones... so keeping in touch will be easy...
this coming weekend i'm going to the washington dc health and fitness expo... i'm pretty excited about it... there's lots of fitness tips/health screenings, and free stuff!!! who can pass up free stuff???
and then the next weekend (and probably the one after that too) i'll be making dog biscuits... my latest fundraiser is doing much better than i expected!!! go me... i'm right at $200 from reaching my goal... now i need to focus more on training, and hopefully i'll be set by the time the walk rolls around... oh, and i ordered new shoes!!! a pic will be up as soon as they arrive... yay!

happy new year!!!
it's a few days late, i know...
i had a good new year's celebration... i made a nice dinner for chris and myself (i didn't really care for the tastes of some of the items, but chris liked it), and we watched movies... i fell asleep and woke up with only a few minutes left in 2005...
the next morning i woke up and fixed us a fantastic breakfast and we just tooled around most of the day... we went to see the movie "Fun with Dick and Jane"... some parts were funny, but mostly it was just an okay movie...
monday, i stayed as late as i could before having to leave... wanted to spend lots of time with chris before he heads to england... and leaving this time was lots harder than it's been for a while... but in a way it's getting a little easier... i remember when i would leave pensacola after visiting him there, i would cry for a couple of days after i returned whenever i would think about him... at least i don't do that now... but it was still a tearful good-bye... hopefully i'll get to see him in feb... and boy am i excited about that trip!!!
well, off to a meeting (the first bit of work i've done at work in a week)...
